Your Health is for Life – National Fitness Day 18 September 2024
We are offering a range of free and discounted activities across our centres, plus a free seven day pass when you register between Monday 16 and Sunday 22 September (terms and conditions apply).
Whether you’re a gym lover, fitness class fanatic, swimmer, or are brand new to exercise, we’ve got something for you to get involved in.
Here’s how you can take part
To claim a thrive active National Fitness Day seven day pass you can sign up online at Leisure Hub or call into your local leisure centre.
This pass is available to anyone aged 11 and over.

What you need to do next
Once you have signed up, you will be sent a confirmation email. Bring this email along to your chosen leisure centre to collect your membership card.
We will contact you to arrange your ‘welcome to thrive and fundamentals’ appointment or you can visit your chosen centre to get started.
Already a member?
Why not encourage a friend to take out the free National Fitness Day seven day pass. During those seven days show them all the benefits of being a thrive active member and enjoy working out together. If they join after the seven days, you’ll get a free month’s membership.
Take part in our Technogym MOVEs Challenge
Download the Technogym app as part of your Thrive membership and get involved in our National Fitness Day Challenge. Current members and new starters all welcome!
Gain MOVE points for the exercise/movement you do in and out of our leisure centres. Achieve 14,000 MOVE points between 16th-22nd September and be entered into a prize draw to win a 1 year FREE Membership (T&C’s apply).

National Fitness Day Week!
We will be hosting many activities throughout the week including:
Couch to 5K
Couch to 5K is for everyone, whether you have never run before, or you want to back into being more active. In just 10 weeks it is an easy way to get fitter, happier and healthier.
Couch to 5K is open to anyone aged over 12 years, 12 to 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
Courses starting in September at:
- Bishop Auckland
- Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street
- Crook
- Durham, Passport Office
- Horden
- Meadowfield
- Pelton
- Shildon

10 pin bowling at Peterlee Leisure Centre – FREE GAME*
On Wednesday 18 September there will be free games of bowling available at 1pm and 6pm.
Bookable by calling the centre on 0300 026 1084 or popping in to speak to a member of the team.
*Entitled to one free game for up to 6 people

FREE soft play sessions!
On Wednesday 18 September there are free soft play sessions* happening at:
- Abbey Leisure Centre – 9:30am till 11am and 2pm till 3:30pm
- Peterlee Leisure Centre – 10am till 11:30am and 2pm till 3:30pm
- The Louisa Centre – 10am till 11:30am and 2pm till 3:30pm
To book your place on these free sessions click on your preferred centre above, select Wednesday 18 September on the calendar and the time you require.
- Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre – free soft play sessions will be running between 9am and 4pm.

Buggy Beat
Are you looking to get moving after having a baby? Want to meet other mams? Buggy Beats is the class to help with both!
This post natal class is happening at various sites across the county and will be free s during this week.
The following sessions are bookable online via here:
- Meadowfield Leisure Centre – Monday 9:30am -10:30am
- Shildon Leisure Centre – Tuesday 9:15am -10:00am
- Meadowfield Leisure Centre- Friday 10:30-11:30
- Abbey Leisure Centre – Friday 13:45-14:30
For the following sessions just head to the Leisure Centre reception and they will book you in:
- Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre (taster session) – Friday 10:45am-11:30am
- Peterlee Leisure Centre – Wednesday 10am-10:45am

Adult Disability Sports Day – FREE bookable event
Tuesday 17 September between 1pm and 4pm at Spennymoor Leisure Centre
An action packed afternoon where you can take part in taster session in Cricket, Football, Boccia, Judo, Netball and more.

Move Hub at Abbey Leisure Centre and now at the Louisa Centre
The Move Hub is perfect for those looking to start a fitness journey in a gentle way. Whether you are recovering from injury, wanting to improve mobility or tone up and get stronger.
You can use the Move Hub with your seven day pass once you have completed a welcome to thrive and fundamentals appointment.

Young people
Young people between the ages of 11 and 16 can also get involved and experience the benefits of our junior thrive active memberships.
This includes:
- access to age appropriate activities in the gym at your chosen leisure centre, including an induction and personal fitness plans
- age appropriate classes at your chosen leisure centre and the ability to book seven days in advance
- swimming at any of our leisure centres that have a pool
- discounts on other activities such as court hire
