Proposals in more detail<\/h4>\n

Swimming pool and water play<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The current pool remains popular with its existing slide and wave facilities. As well as upgrading the pool space, we also proposed to add in some new interactive elements to create enjoyable and exciting experiences for customers to enjoy.<\/p>\n

Reception<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We proposed to move the main reception area will move to a more central location within the building to improve links with the town centre and allow for moving the library into the leisure centre.<\/p>\n

Play facilities<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We proposed to include play facilities and increase family fun, physical activity and play. One of the five big issues identified by Sport England’s is the provision of positive experiences for children and young people and embedding physical activity through fun from an early age. There will also be benefits for individuals and the community in terms of enhanced social and mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n

Food and drink<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We proposed to add healthy food and drinks to our new play spaces. This will help to support and maintain the sustainability of the centre, and add to the overall experience and provide a much needed opportunity to create social spaces. These will be key for the community in recovering from the pandemic, and will help support our ongoing work to improve wellbeing through social interactions.<\/p>\n

Library<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We proposed to relocate the library into the former caf\u00e9 area in the centre of the building.<\/p>\n

The closing date for comments was 5.00pm on Friday 12 November 2021.<\/h4>\n

Consultation outcomes<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We would like to thank everyone who gave us their feedback on proposals to make changes to Spennymoor Leisure Centre. There was lots of interest shown through our digital survey, social media channels, face to face sessions and through several special interest groups.<\/p>\n

The feedback has now been looked at and has helped shape how we take the work forward. The following has been agreed:
\n\u2022 The proposals will proceed broadly as planned to introduce the changes to the facilities and activities.
\n\u2022 There were many comments about the future activity programme. Now that the facilities and activity offer have been confirmed, we are now in a position to review the programme and we will take your comments into account where possible. This will be shared with customers and residents as it develops.
\n\u2022 There were lots of positive comments about how family focussed the new activity and facility proposals are. Comments also highlighted the need to ensure the changes offered additional facilities in the centre such as baby changing and buggy parks, so the plans are being reviewed to consider this.<\/p>\n

The project was delivered in 2-phases, the first phase, comprising the library and refurbished main entrance was complete in Summer 2023 and the 2nd<\/sup> phase, comprising the improvements to the pool, new caf\u00e9 and play area was completed in early 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
