Move is all about helping you get out and about, enjoy the outdoors, improve your mental health and wellbeing, and make new friends. With activities and programmes across the County – from craft groups and gentle exercise classes to walking sports and outdoor walks – there’s something for everyone. All sessions are led by fully trained staff and volunteers, so you’ll be supported every step of the way. We want to make sure that everyone, no matter what their circumstances, can move more as part of their everyday life. We offer a range of regular activities and programmes for you to try, come along to a session and see what suits you.

What Move activities and programmes we offer
- Move creative: If you’d like to join a reading or craft group or maybe try an adult colouring session, then why not try a Move Creative activity? Find new ways to be creative, whilst you improve your mood and self-esteem. It’s a great place to meet new people and make some new friends.
- Move sport: Try one of our sporting activities to help you move more, we have walking sports including cricket, football and netball sessions across County Durham.
Walking sports provide a sociable, fun and safe environment for those looking to be a little more active, but at a slower pace. Everybody is welcome, anyone can join in whether you’ve played before or not. - Move classes: There are lots of different sessions on offer including seated exercise classes, yoga and exercise to music. Just speak to our friendly class instructor when you arrive.
- Move cycling: We have gentle cycle sessions in designated locations which help you gain confidence on a bike, in a safe environment. We will provide the bike and helmet for your session.
- Move running: Running is a great way to move more. It’s low cost, you can get out and about, enjoy the outdoors, meet new people and have fun. If you’re new to running, or want to improve your health, why not join one of our Couch to 5K courses which take place across the County.
- Move walking: We offer a programme of regular walks for all abilities.
Gentle Steps – Joining one of our Gentle Steps to Walking sessions is a great first step to a more active lifestyle. These walks take place in a flat, enclosed safe environment. You can walk at your own pace and rest whenever you need to. Gentle Steps walks are great for helping you to build up your confidence and activity levels at your own pace.
Wellbeing Walks – These walks cover different terrain and follow relatively flat routes. Wellbeing walks range from 60 -90 minutes.

Move Hub
Our Move Hubs offer you the chance to start a fitness journey in a gentle way. Whether you are recovering from injury, wish to get in shape, improve mobility, or improve strength we can help start you on a new path to improving your health and wellbeing. Each Move Hub is filled with specialist power assisted equipment. This gives a helping hand, enabling you to exercise in a low impact way but still gives you a full body workout. The Hub is also a social
space, so as you work through a gentle workout, you’ll also get to chat and make friends. Move Hubs are available in selected Leisure Centres.

Membership
Many of our sessions are free of charge, and others have a small fee. If you’d like to join a Move activity you will need a free Move membership. This will allow you to access any of our free activities such as walking, running, cycling or gardening. It will also allow you to pay as you go for Move community and leisure centre entry
level classes. For even better value for money the Move Plus membership gives you access to the Move Hub, Move community & leisure centre entry level classes, walking sports and swimming for a monthly fee. Move Plus members can also access all free sessions.
