Steam Room Closure Notice
Please be advised that the steam room at Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre is currently closed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
Important Customer Notice – Temporary Partial Closure
To allow essential maintenance works to be carried out on our Changing Village floor, the following facilities and activities at Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre will be temporarily closed from Monday 2 November to Sunday 15 November 2026 (inclusive):
- Main Pool
- Small Pool
- Steam Room
- Swimming Lessons
- Aqua Base Fitness Classes
- Swimming Club Sessions
- Changing Village
We are planning to reopen all facilities on Monday 16 November 2026.
The following facilities and activities will remain open as normal throughout the closure period:
- Gym/Weights Room
- Dryside Fitness Classes
- Squash Courts
- Soft Play
During this period, Thrive members can continue to use swimming pools and sauna/steam room facilities at other Durham County Council leisure centres where available. Please check the Durham County Council Leisure website for each centre’s opening times, swimming timetables, and available facilities before travelling.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential improvement works are completed.
Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre boasts a cardio and strength gym and weights room, two swimming pools, a steam room, studio, spinning studio, two squash courts and an indoor soft play area for kids.
Gym
Whether you’re new to fitness or a regular user, the gym at Chester-le-Street offers a variety of equipment including cardio, strength and free weights. The site also has Tanita body scales which can help you track ten different measurements, like muscle mass, to support your fitness journey. Our friendly team are also on hand to offer advice and motivation to help you reach your goals.

Exercise classes
A variety of instructor led classes take place in Chester-le-Street’s studio. Friendly and welcoming, why not join a community of likeminded people and take part in a session today.
Swimming
With two pools, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Chester-le-Street. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, go swimming with your toddler or take part in a water based fitness class you can do it all at Chester-le-Street. You can also relax in the centre’s steam room.

Squash

Parties
Why not have a splashtastic time and book a pool party at Chester-le-Street. The pool party includes floats, toys and games for children and adults to enjoy together. Our pool parties are looked after by fully-qualified lifeguards. For your safety every child must be accompanied by an adult.
Soft play
Climb, slide and tumble around in the centre’s soft play area. Crammed with activities to keep kids busy, its a fun way to entertain little ones and tire them out!
