About Soft play

Crammed with slides, challenges and lot of fun our soft play areas are great places for kids to jump around in, climb and have new adventures.

Peterlee Leisure Centre has our largest three-storey Play Zone soft play area and during the week (term time) the Play Zone is open for little ones to enjoy during the day at Abbey Leisure Centre. There is also a Play Zone at the Louisa Centre.

We have smaller soft play facilities at Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre and Teesdale Leisure Centre’s soft play.

Abbey soft play

During the week (term time) the Play Zone is open for little ones to enjoy. Older children can experience exhilarating slides and problem-solve their way through obstacles across three levels of fun, whilst toddlers have their own dedicated space filled with captivating activities, soft blocks and slides.

  • The toddler area is for children under 3 years only.
  • The junior area is for children over 3 years and up to 148cm tall.
  • Children under 8 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Peterlee soft play

Peterlee is home to our largest soft play with three levels to explore, plus a dedicated toddler area.

Right next door to the centre’s thrive kitchen, with lots of seating, the soft play area is the perfect place to indulge in a coffee, sweet treat or buy food for the family.

Louisa soft play

Kids can climb, slide and tumble their way through three levels of fun in the Play Zone at the Louisa Centre. Toddlers have their own dedicated space filled with captivating activities, soft blocks and slides. There’s plenty of seating and an integrated café next to the Play Zone area too, perfect for relaxing and watching your littles ones have a brilliant play experience.

Why not indulge in a coffee and a sweet treat while you wait, from our thrive kitchen café. You can also order food for the family.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) soft play sessions

At The Louisa Centre, we believe that play is for everyone! That’s why we’re excited to offer dedicated SEND soft play sessions designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and sensory-friendly environment. Our SEND sessions offer a relaxed, inclusive space where children with additional needs can explore, interact, and play at their own pace. The session is tailored to accommodate a range of needs with a more relaxed atmosphere to ensure every child can feel comfortable and confident.

It offers:

  • a sensory friendly environment with reduced noise and interactive light technology our sessions create a calming and enjoyable experience
  • supportive staff who are on hand to assist and ensure all children are supported in a safe, fun setting
  • social development where children will have the opportunity to build social skills and engage with others in an environment that values inclusion

Sessions are available on Monday (9.00am to 11.30am) and Wednesday (4.00pm to 6.30pm). It’s £5 per child for the soft play, or £6 per child for our interactive TAG system.

Chester-le-Street soft play

Chester-le-Street has one of our smaller soft play facilities and is for up to 11 year olds. The rooms will keep little ones entertained as they climb, side and have lots of fun.

Spennymoor soft play

Teesdale soft play

In the newly refurbished Play Zone youngsters can climb, slide and tumble around. The soft play is crammed with activities to keep kids busy, its a fun way to entertain little ones and tire them out!
